What Are Pocket Pets?

"Pocket pets" are small animals like mice, hamsters, and chinchillas that make adorable companions. Because these pets often have shorter lifespans than cats and dogs, regular veterinary care is especially important to keep them healthy and happy.

At the very least, your pocket pet should visit the vet once a year. During these checkups, your veterinarian can answer any care questions you may have and ensure your pet’s living environment is safe, clean, and comfortable.

Caring for Your Pocket Pet

In addition to routine exams, there are other important steps to help keep your small pet healthy. Our team will partner with you to ensure your pet gets the personalized care, attention, and support it needs to thrive.

Spaying and Neutering

Spaying and neutering isn’t just for cats and dogs—small pets benefit too. In addition to preventing unwanted litters, it can reduce the risk of certain diseases and health issues, helping your pet live a longer, healthier life.

Dental Care

Certain pocket pets, such as guinea pigs and rats, are more likely to develop dental problems. During annual exams, we’ll carefully check your pet’s teeth and provide any necessary care to help keep them healthy and comfortable.

Vaccinations

Depending on your pet’s species, routine vaccinations may be recommended. We’ll help create a custom vaccination plan to ensure your pet stays protected and up to date.

Diagnosing Health Issues

If you’ve noticed changes in your pet’s behavior or any concerning symptoms, don’t wait—bring them in for an exam. We can perform a physical checkup, run bloodwork, or take x-rays to help identify and address the issue promptly.
